“Ain’t No Sunshine”. “Grandma’s Hands”. “Lovely Day”. “Use Me.” You know these songs. They are timeless soul/r&b classics, and they are just a handful of the amazing tracks penned and performed by Bill Withers in the 1970’s. While those off us who are long-time fans hold out hope for a new album one day, the odds of that ever happening are slim. He hasn’t released an album of new material since 1985, so if you’re looking to add his music to your collection, The Best of Bill Withers: Lean On Me (pictured) is a great place to start. Also, check out the great 2009 documentary Still Bill.
One of my favourite Bill Withers cuts, from his debut album Just As I Am:
Happy Birthday Bill. If you ever decide to release a new album, count me in.
